FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who will be there?

The Simple Serenity Retreat is for members of COSA only, but welcomes all genders, all varieties of relationship to the addict, all religious and spiritual preferences, all employment statuses, all marital statuses, all ethnicities, cultures, and languages. COSA does not discriminate on the basis of class, sexual orientation or gender identification, physical or mental challenges, race, or national origin. You are welcome whether or not there is a sexually addicted person currently in your life.

COSA Diversity is consistent with the Third Tradition of COSA, which states that the only requirement for COSA membership is that our lives have been affected by compulsive sexual behavior.

Is there wifi and cell phone coverage?

Cell phone coverage can be spotty, depending on your carrier. St. Dorothy's does have free wifi.

Are linens provided?

Yes, St. Dorothy's provides sheets and towels, however, you do need to strip your bed at the end of the weekend.

What should I bring with me?

We have a list of suggestions as well as other helpful tips on our Tips for First Timers page.

I have dietary restrictions. Does St. Dorothy's serve vegetarian/vegan/dairy-free/gluten-free meals?

The staff at St. Dorothy's takes care to provide options for those with dietary restrictions and allergies and does provide vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free options. However, if you have dietary needs beyond those listed, you may wish to supplement with your own food. Refrigerators, microwaves, and other cooking equipment is available on site.

Is there a one-day option or same day registration?

No, we are not able to offer a day-only option or same day registration at this time.

How do we maintain anonymity?

We will have the buildings we occupy, as well as the dining facilities to ourselves. However, we still need to be mindful of the presence of kitchen and facilities staff in common areas, as well as anyone else on the grounds. Our retreat is anonymous ("Simple Serenity"). We do not use our program name in public areas. If someone from outside our fellowship asks, you can describe our retreat simply as a spiritual or personal growth program.

What if I need help, have a question, or just need support?

Please ask! We COSAs love to support each other. If you ask for what you need, you will find someone who can help. Several participants will have a colored ribbon on their name tag - it means they are available to help.

How can I volunteer to be of service or share an idea?

We welcome additional helpers and always need extra hands to make the retreat go smoothly.  Contact us and let us know you would like to be of service.
We will also have a suggestion box on site, if you have ideas for next year's retreat.

How do I make a Seventh Tradition donation?

Our Seventh Tradition states that we ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions. To help ensure that we have funds to cover our costs, including scholarships for those in need and our deposit for next year's retreat, we will be accepting Seventh Tradition donations in a basket during the retreat weekend.

Where can I get more information about recovering from the effects of compulsive sexual behavior?

COSA holds in-person meetings throughout the Bay Area and many other locations, although many of these continue to be temporarily online due to COVID. In addition, COSA offers a variety of telephone and online meetings. Meeting lists and COSA literature can be found on the COSA website.
